Founder's Note
From Denis B. O’Connell, President and CEO of Cal OSHA Manuals
I began Cal OSHA Manuals in 1999 after serving more than 25 years in management positions in several industries when I received a request by a Dentist to furnish a safety manual. I, of course, researched the subject, including reviewing what many managers were using. Almost everything I found in use was completely inadequate if not criminal in content. Many of the “safety programs” would cost management thousands of dollars in fines if an OSHA inspection were held.
So I set out to deliver a product that would be useful and deliver the correct, current information needed to ensure a safe working environment for both management and employees. I believe we have done this. Over the years we have striven diligently to improve the information both in content and style. Our research is an integral part of the company, and it includes government and industry publications as well as conversations with those in the industries, from the new hires to the CEOs. We feel everyone has something to offer, be it small or large, in the field of safety.
My vision, when I founded Cal OSHA Manuals, was to provide a product that, if followed, would deliver a safe environment for employees and protect an employer from scrutiny by governmental entities and the reduce the incidents which lead to injuries and lawsuits. While Cal OSHA Manuals now entails numerous compliance products and services, that core vision remains.
