MSDS Manuals (Material Safety Data Sheet)
There is a section in our OSHA manual about MSDS’s. Please see below on how to order data sheets for your office.
- OSHA requires each place of business to have an inventory of
hazardous substances used in the workplace.
- Each substance on the list must have a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet).
There is a standard of information required, so if you have a MSDS, you have
the required information.
- The law does require that the MSDS come from the manufacturer or
distributor of the item, (you are not allowed to create your own).
- The law also requires the MSDS to be current. If a revision has occurred
since you began using the product you must have a current MSDS. Some
products are pretty basic and will not incur revisions (e.g., bleach).
Others seem to change formulas often. Be sure you monitor your MSDS file
regularly.

order), complete with an alphabetical listing to use as an index. We
subscribe to several services that provide MSDS’s and we have an extensive
file of product MSDS’s on hand.
- When you order we will send you some work sheets so that you can furnish
us with a list of the products used in your facility. We then secure the
MSDS's for you. This way your file of MSDS's is site specific (as required
by OSHA).
- We do not include MSDS's for products you do not use, nor do we use
generic MSDS's. All of the Material Safety Data Sheets are from the
manufacturer or distributor, as required by OSHA.
- With each MSDS book we include a glossary of terms used on MSDS’s (over 750 terms).
As an exercise, try to determine how much it will cost to have an employee research, order, follow up, file and update your MSDS inventory.
Starting from scratch, about 10 minutes per product is a fair estimate. 150 products equals 1500 minutes or about 25 hours. Multiply that by the wage rate to get your cost. Of course, while your employee is doing this they are not doing the job for which you actually pay them, so your cost is actually twice this figure.
